Mechanical Ham is all about amateur radio. However, it is amateur radio with a twist. While Software Defined Radio (SDR) and digital modes have their place in amateur radio, it has little to no place here. Why? Simple, Mechanical Ham is all about radio without digital electronics. This means when discussing a variable frequency oscillator (VFO), I am talking about a real tuning capacitor, not an opto-isolator device. This is what Mechanical Ham is about. That means you will read about vacuum tubes and the periodic transistor, but microchips will only be discussed if it has something to do with radio licensing. The major focus of Mechanical Ham is low power operation, also known as QRP. This also means that there will be discussions about antique radios, as these use tubes and variable capacitors. Welcome to the pre-digital world. Welcome to Mechanical Ham.
